Brettenham has always had an enthusiastic and talented gardening club. Annual events such as Apple Day in September, growing potato competitions and produce displays at harvest are a regular reminder. As a village we are privileged that the club's talent spills over to our churchyard and village green and during these difficult times, these open spaces are even more special to us all. Members of the gardening club are avid followers of Gardeners' World and no doubt Monty Don has influenced many a choice of flower and shrub over the years. Recently Gardeners' World called upon viewers to send in video clips of how communities are managing their gardens and taking comfort from their gardens during the current restrictions. As regular viewers will know, Monty Don is always accompanied by his pet dogs on the show and just this week he announced the sad death of his beloved Nigel, the golden retriever. Brettenham is as passionate about its pooches as it is its gardens and completely understand the TV presenter's loss.
Gardeners' World is on BBC2 on Friday evenings and repeated on Sunday mornings but always available on demand. The Brettenham Gardening Club are delighted to share their video with everyone. Simply follow the link. Many thanks to Ray and Janyne Latimer for putting the clip together on behalf of the Club.
Stay tuned to Gardeners' World in the weeks ahead - who knows, we may make the show.
